Urgent Call for New AIRPI Committee Members – Listening Event on Feb. 13th – Increase in AIRPI Funding- S & V Online Training Booked Out in Dublin and more….

Urgent Call for New AIRPI Committee Members

Let’s start with the good news, AIRPI has secured an increase in funding from the BAI’s Sectorial Learning and Development unit following a strong submission for scarce funds based on our action plan for 2013.

So we have bucked the downward trend in funding from the BAI, to everyone for everything, and secured funds for an exciting programme of training for 2013. However as a 100% voluntary organization all our activities, training and otherwise, rely on having an executive committee to execute those plans.

And that’s why we need members to step up and put their names forward for the next committee. Regretfully, most of the existing committee have to step down due to work and other commitments and in preparation we have been seeking replacements. So far to no avail, hence this call.

We appreciate that people are busy these days, we are all having to work harder and longer for the same money (if we are lucky!). It also has to be noted that even with this year’s increase, we will have half of the funding we had from the BAI in 2009. So recent committees have been faced with the challenge of doing more with less.

These are challenges the serving committee took on and met over the past year but we now need to hand over. So please get in touch by emailing secretary@airpi.ie or feel free to contact anyone on the committee with questions. We will be delighted to hear from you.

Sound and Vision Online Training Booked Out in Dublin

Within the week of its announcement, BAI’s online training session in Dublin for February 7th is booked out, which just goes to show how many people are chasing S & V funds. However there are plenty places still available at the Galway training on the 5th of February.

We have been promised all the material will be on the BAI Web site next week and additional workshops are being planned to meet the demand. No doubt you all got your invitations from BAI, but if not the email for registration is bai@DHR.ie

Listening Event on Feb. 13th

AIRPI are delighted to be able to support a listening event, taking place at The Joinery, Arbour Hill, Dublin, February 13th at 7-8 p.m.

To suggest material to listen to, or for more information contact our former training officer, Julian Clancy at Julian.clancy@gmail.com

Excellent Master Class

AIRPI’s 2013 training programme opened on a high note with Jens Jarisch’s inspiring and very enjoyable Dublin master class on Saturday 24th.

The multi-award winning German producer showed an envious AIRPI audience his impressive field recording kit and outlined his interesting approach to recording.

For those familiar with his work, the great question of how he managed to record a blow-job, featured in his Prix Europa winning documentary “K – Portrait of a drugs and prostitution scene”, was finally answered!

If you missed this excellent training you can still enjoy some of Jens Jarisch’s more recent work on the Third Coast Festival site, link below.

‘Lafcadio’, a two-part documentary,BAI ONLINE, Jens Jarisch Documentary Masterclass

‘Lafcadio’, a two-part documentary on the extraordinary life and work of the writer Patrick Lafcadio Hearn.

AIRPI members Claire Cunningham and Julien Clancy have just completed their first co-production, ‘Lafcadio’, a two-part documentary on the extraordinary life and work of the writer Patrick Lafcadio Hearn. He is largely forgotten in Ireland, where he spent his childhood, but is regarded as a national treasure in Japan, where he spent the final years of his life and produced his greatest works. ‘Lafcadio’ is broadcast on Friday at 7 pm on Friday 25 January and Friday 1 February on RTE lyric fm.

BBC Radio 4 readings tender briefing Saturday Session with Jens Jarisch… EuroMedia Awards 2013… Request for AIRPI members to register for survey

AIRPI is proud to present – a Saturday Session with Jens Jarisch…

AIRPI’s Saturday Sessions Series continues on January 26th, 2013 with award winning German independent radio producer and documentarian Jens Jarisch.

When: Saturday January 26th, 2013

Where: Clarion Hotel, IFSC, Dublin 1

Time: 10am – 4.30pm

Jens Jarisch has spent half his life in Berlin, where he currently works as a radio documentary editor for the German broadcaster Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg. He has squandered valuable years studying literature, occupying himself with random travels to peculiar places along the way. Spellbound by the world’s sound, he began recording what he found most difficult to grasp, trying to reveal the hidden and make it audible. Jarisch’s twelve year’s work as an independent producer runs to sixteen documentaries and has been awarded with several national and international media prizes.

AIRPI is delighted to welcome Jens to Dublin to give an exclusive masterclass to its members and help them further develop their creative production skills. This is a great opportunity to be in the company of one of Europe’s most decorated independent radio producers and to learn how to further improve your work through his advice and tutelage.

Don’t miss this creative documentary masterclass which is sure to enlighten and enthuse.

Members are encouraged to bring a short audio sample of their work (5 minutes max) to get constructive feedback from Jens and the group – should time permit.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.

Places on this masterclass are limited so please book your space by emailing training@airpi.ie today!

Please bear in mind that no-shows cost AIRPI and its members valuable resources so please only sign-up if you are certain you will attend.

This event is for AIRPI members only. Not a member yet? Then email membership@airpi.ie to join.

Request for AIRPI members to register for survey on access to finanance.

Dear Madam,
Dear Sir,

In various studies, access to finance has been pointed out as a core barrier to growth for many cultural and creative companies. The European Commissionwants to learn more about the financing needs and access to finance of the cultural and creative sectors across Europe. Therefore, as a part of a larger study, the European Commission has commissioned IDEA Consult to run an online survey from mid-February to mid-March 2013. It will be available in the three official languages of the European Union (English, French and German).

As we have no European wide database to start from, we are asking for your help.

As you probably have access to plenty of cultural and creative organizations, you could trigger them to register, and / or to follow us on Twitter (@EUforcreativity) so we can invite them to participate in the survey as soon as it is available online.

How?

«  Spread the link www.eu-for-creativity.eu and/or our Twitter page@euforcreativity to your contacts, through your own website, newsletter, Twitter, or Facebook account.

«  Register on www.eu-for-creativity.eu. We will inform you of the launch dateand send ready-made supporting communication materials (texts in English, French and German, logos) that you can use to spread the message.

More information on this study is available at www.eu-for-creativity.eu.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us by email at eu-for-creativity@ideaconsult.be or by phone at +32 2 300 85 04.

Sincerely yours,

Isabelle De Voldere (project leader – IDEA Consult)
